Last year, someone thought I looked 16. Last month, someone thought I look like I’m 14. And they thought my boyfriend was my dad. Last week, someone said I look like I’m 12. Today’s my 23rd birthday. Sigh.

I was late to class so I decided to take an alternative route through the
Student Union Building and ran past the buses full of elementary school students
parked at the front. As I ran into the building and up the stairs, a lady
yelled at me to “stay with the group.” I’m probably 15 years older
than the kid I was mistaken for just because I’m short.

While taking pictures for a clubbing event, a tall security guard pulled me off
stage and asked me “aren’t you a little too young to be in here? what are
you? 15?” and I simply replied. “No. I’m Asian.”

One afternoon, I was flying to Southern California for a job interview. I ordered coffee from the stewardess. Later on, I started a conversation with the person sitting next to me. He was surprised when I told him how old I am — 22. “I thought you were 15, or maybe 18 after you ordered coffee,” he told me.

Sigh, this isn’t the first time something like this has happened.

Today, a nurse administering flu shots thought I was 16, and directed me towards the pediatrics station. MLIA.
