Dad Says to Own the Curve

Today, I got a 78 out of 70 on my math test. It was originally out of 70, but
my teacher curved the grade. I was so excited to tell my parents that I had
gotten more than 100 percent!! But when I got home and relayed the information
to my dad, he said in Chinese, “That’s it? Why couldn’t you get an 80 out
of 70??” He was serious.

No Faith in Public Schools

Today I was asked if I was Asian. A classmate yelled at the kid saying
“He’s not Asian, he’s Korean!” I no longer have faith in American
public schools.

Best Class Ever

Yesterday, In World Geography we started studying East Asia. When we were done
with our notes the teacher put on Chinese music videos for us to watch. Jolin
Tsai came on and I almost about jumped out of my chair in excitement.

Today, during class, I hunched over my desk looking at the handout sheet my teacher gave. 30 seconds in, she yelled “____ Wake up!” in the end I wasn’t asleep, my eyes are just small.

Average is Dishonorable

Today I came home with a 89% in math class. My dad looked at it, yelled at me about how I was dishonoring him and our famiry … I had the highest average in my class and had missed a month of school due to mono.
