Moving Four Words

Today, I asked my mom to help me pick four adjectives that describe me for my
counselor recommendation form. She said, “Well I definitely wouldn’t say
driven.” I get straight A’s and got close to a perfect score on my SAT’s
without tutors or anything like that.

Doesn’t Have to be Asian to be ‘Asian’

even though i am white, i still feel like MLIAsian:
my dad is obsessive about my grades, i’m in all advanced classes,
i’m such a horrible driver that it took me 6 tries to get my license,
i’m resentful of my parents because they never let me have piano or
violin lessons, i’m sad i’m going to a state school and not
ivy league like my asian friends because there’ll be so many white
people there and not enough asians, my eyes are squinty in all of my pictures
because the flash makes me blink, and i do whatever my parents tell me to
without a fuss.

Today i got a 96 on my test and i was so upset i cried for 2 hours and then i
got grounded….

Dad Says to Own the Curve

Today, I got a 78 out of 70 on my math test. It was originally out of 70, but
my teacher curved the grade. I was so excited to tell my parents that I had
gotten more than 100 percent!! But when I got home and relayed the information
to my dad, he said in Chinese, “That’s it? Why couldn’t you get an 80 out
of 70??” He was serious.

Parental Fear

Today, I got a 70 Math average.(I’m asian) My parents gave me a lecture about
how they think I’ll fail at life and work as a coolie for the rest of my life.
It’s only the first month of the semester and I’m in Grade 9.

When I got my grades back from my progress report in school, my mother saw that
I had one C. She told me I was grounded, but she still gave me permission to go
out and watch TV, etc. She did, however, take away my DS. I felt as if someone
took a part of my soul away.

My parents told me they would get me a new laptop if all my term grades were an
A+. I got 5 A+’s and 1 A.
My current laptop is going to be taken away and I’m not getting a new one…

Today, my progress report for the triad came home. My parents took one look at
it, let out a long sigh of disappointment and said, “Oh, only 4 A+’s but 2
A-’s.”
